Disney Plus Streaming Service

Β  Β Morgan Vincent

Β  Β  Disney recently announced that they have produced a new streaming service. Disney Plus is a monthly streaming service that is expected to compete with Netflix, Hulu and Apple TV, especially when Disney fans have been watching their favorites disappear off of other streaming services one by one.Β

Β Β Β Β Β Β Many people first heard about the news when Disney released a Twitter thread of every single feature coming to their service. With a lot of circling publicity, numerous people have already decided which movies they want to watch first.

Β Β Β Β Β Β The platform has more than 600 TV shows and movies set for its first launch along with others on the way in later updates.Β

Β Β Β Β Β Β Disney Plus contains content from some other branch companies such as Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. All come included in the convenience of one platform.Β

Β Β Β Β Β The service has also announced that they will provide their own β€œoriginal content and never before seen exclusives” which die-hard Disney fans might find worthwhile.

Β Β Β Β Β At only $6.99 per month, Disney Plus falls on the low side of the spectrum for streaming prices. Yet, they have released that there may be more exclusive membership options in the future.

Β Β Β With so many new streaming platforms and loads of special promotions other companies have already rolled out to promote themselves, many feel that Disney Plus is nothing special and that it just blends in with all the other releases they have seen lately.

Β Β Β Β Β Β Although Disney Plus does not appear like a stand-alone type of subscription, many people are considering to purchase it in addition to their existing services. Senior Emily Kuntz already has many streaming services and is considering if Disney Plus should be a new addition.

Β Β Β Β Β β€œIt seems like a very good idea for Disney to do and could be very beneficial for their business. I already have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video though,” Kuntz said.Β

Β Β Β Β The platform is not just geared towards Disney lovers. Many people have considered the service add-on either for their children or for some nostalgia of programs they grew up watching.Β

Β Β Β Β Β β€œI feel like I am a big fan of Disney, but only the old Disney. The new shows and movies don’t seem as good to me,” Kuntz said.

Β Β Β Β Β The release date for Disney Plus is set on November 12. If the subscription does not sound too convincing, Disney is offering a free seven day trial for anyone wanting to give it a chance.Β

HAPPY’s New Student Breakfast

Lauren Rayman

Β  Β  Β  HAPPY recently hosted a breakfast to help welcome new students in the district to Stow-Munroe Falls High School.

Β Β Β Β Β On Tuesday, October 29, HAPPY’s breakfast mixer was held for the 75 high school students that are new to the district. The mixer was held during 2nd and 3rd periods in the library.

Β Β Β Β Β Students that attended participated in lots of activities to get to know not only other new students, but to also get to know HAPPY members.

Β Β Β Β Β β€œWe did an β€œI Like People Who…” game which is like musical chairs and a speed dating game to get people to know each other better,” senior HAPPY member Meghan Koch said.

Β Β Β Β Β While HAPPY was planning the mixer, they divided club members to help ensure that all of their bases would be covered for the event.

Β Β Β Β Β Once they had chosen a date, people were assigned to deciding what food they wanted to have for the breakfast portion of the mixer, and others were assigned to coming up with games and activities that they would do at the mixer.

Β Β Β Β Β Junior Tony Madjerich attended Chippewa during his sophomore year of high school, but had gone to Stow previously. He felt that the breakfast mixer was a great opportunity to reconnect with people he knew before transferring to Chippewa.

Β Β Β Β Β β€œIt also allowed me to meet more people I had not known from being at Stow before,” Madjerich said.

Β Β Β Β Β HAPPY’s breakfast mixer provided students that were new to the district a chance to meet other students in the same situation as them.

Β Β Β Β Β Ryan Hinman, an English teacher and HAPPY advisor, feels that it is very important to make those connections with other students as soon as possible, especially in high school.

Β Β Β Β Β β€œEveryone needs support groups, and when you come to a new school you don’t always have the support groups you need. You might not have the people surrounding you that can help you out, which makes you prone to, unfortunately, maybe bullying or feeling left out of the general culture of the school. So, this is a chance for other students who may not have those support groups to come together, find them, have a great time and a wonderful breakfast, and feel like Stow cares about them as much as we really do,” Hinman said.

Β Β Β Β Β Koch and Hinman both feel that the overall, the event was a great success in helping new students befriend each other and HAPPY members. It also gave new students the opportunity to connect with HAPPY’s advisors.

Β Β Β Β Β Students interested in joining HAPPY can visit Hinman’s room, room 108, for more information. HAPPY meets during 5th and 7th period lunches on Wednesday’s.

Veterans Beating the Stereotype

Morgan Vincent

Β Β Β Β Β For years veterans have had many events held in their honor as well as many corporations honoring them with promotions. There are people think that label them with stereotypes, thinking they take advantage of these services, but many see them as a well deserved reward for all their contributions.

Β Β Β Β Β Here in Stow, we offer a veterans day breakfast celebration at most schools in the district. The breakfast allows the veterans to spend time with their loved ones as well as feast on their favorite breakfast goodies during the school day.

Β Β Β Β Β Senior, Gabby Hawk addressed how she felt about veterans and how the services they receive can impact them greatly.Β Β Β Β

Β Β Β β€œMy uncle is actually a Marine Veteran so I have a good idea of how he feels. When I think of veterans, I think of them as brave, resilient, and courageous people,” Hawk said.Β

Β Β Β Β Β Most people feel that the veterans cherish all the events held for them and that they have worked so hard that they have earned it.Β

Β Β Β Β β€œI feel that all the benefits for them are rightfully deserved and that most veterans appreciate all of them,” Hawk said.

Β Β Β Β Although there are numerous services already available for veterans, many feel that there should be more and that there should be easier access to them as well.Β

Β Β Β Β There is a wide variety of things that veterans could benefit from that go far beyond freebies and luncheons. Services such as counseling and support groups can be implemented as well for an easier transition out of the service.

Β Β Β Β β€œI think more rehab and therapy should be offered for them because many veterans who have been in combat suffer from severe mental illnesses,” Hawk said.

Β Β Β Β Β In the future it is likely there will be more support offered for Veterans, but as for now, the services we have will continue to be offered for them.
