(Full) Religion Inclusiveness story

Suzie Lee

Many people often perceive diversity as racial, gender, age and sexual orientation; however, β€œdiversity” also mean different economic backgrounds or one’s personal religious belief.

Β Β Β Currently, the world has 4200 different religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, Muslim, Catholic and many more. Each of individuals shape their own religion from many diverse backgrounds and reasons. Undoubtedly, β€œReligion” has become the one of the most common way to identify oneself.

Β Β Β Β Due to religion being so diverse and complex, many people often decide to be careful or avoid the conversation of religion. Also, people can be discriminated or benefitted by religion or view a one universal topic in a unique way.

Β Β Β Β In the high school, many of the students have diverse religions and they shared their personal religious experiences and opinions.

Β Β Β Β Junior Libby Tritten is raised in the Christian faith by her parents and goes to a church part of the Lutheran Missouri Synod. She mentioned that they are very close to the catholic faith because of the founder, Martin Luther, broke away from the Catholic church.

Β Β Β Β Tritten said, β€œ[my religion’s] core beliefs are: grace alone, faith alone, scripture alone.”

Β Β Β Β Being raised by a pastor father, Tritten has a deep, well-known knowledge about religion history which leads her explaining Theory of Evolution to her classmates.

Β Β Β Β β€œA lot of people get this notion that all Christians are hateful and will attack you for being different, and while some may be like that, the majority of us believe that we are to show others the love that Jesus showed us,” Tritten said, β€œit is important to note that we are all sinners and all need his forgiveness.”

Β Β Β Β Tritten personally never encountered a discrimination or bad experience after telling someone that she was Christian; she believes that everyone should respect and no one deserves to be judged for what they believe. Β

Β Β Β Β Senior Ayah Abukhaled practices Islam and was born into this religion; she was raised being a Muslim by my family and continues to pursue.

Β Β Β Β β€œI think one of the most perceived stereotypes about Islam is that it’s a violent religion and inequality between the gender, particularly that women are oppressed,” Abukhaled said.

Β Β Β Β Despite the stereotype, Abukhaled shared that her religion simply made her happier and gave the guidance to become the person she is today.

Β Β Β Β β€œI had many people disagreeing or having different beliefs and ideas than me,” Abukhaled said, β€œthat is totally okay. If I was ever discriminated against I would most likely walk away but in some situations I would have to speak up, but also respect other people’s opinions.”

Β Β Β Β Abukhaled also shared that her individual self is not extreme religious of a person, but she celebrates certain traditions and cultural dates that are significant to her family. Β Β Β Β Β

Β Β Β Β β€œAt the end of the day, we all have the same intentions but conflicting perspectives in life. So practicing a different religion doesn’t make me any different than anybody else,” Abukhaled said.

Β Β Β Β Not only does religion mean one’s belief, religion extends more to culture and life of individuals.

Β Β Β Senior Emily Moore is a Catholic raised in the church with the family. She mentioned that her religion has shaped some of her political views and gives her a sense of herself within her beliefs; moreover, her religion helped her to come out of her shell and make good friends.

Β Β Β Β Although many of the aspects of being religious were positive, Moore experienced stereotypes of being religious. β€œEveryone thinks that we hate LGBTQ people, which is a stereotype that is sometimes proven to be true, but not all Catholics believe the same,” Moore said.

Β Β Β Β Moore also encountered a stereotype that priests are all pedophiles and she heavily disagreed saying the claim is not true. Each time she faces a stereotype or misconceptions due to her religion, she tries her best to communicate with them and the misunderstandings were often cleared up easily.

Β Β Β Β Sophomore Sam Senderoff was raised in entire Jewish family, including both parents and relatives. She explained that not many people really know about Judaism well and receives questions about her religion. Sanderoff does not celebrate Christmas or Easter but still celebrates some holidays like Halloween.

Β Β Β Β β€œMost of the time when I tell people that I am Jewish, they think I am joking,” Senderoff said.

Β Β Β Β She experienced major misconceptions from people not believing that she is Jewish because of feature having blue eyes and blond hair.

Β Β Β Β β€œJews are stereotyped looking in a certain way, even though that is not always the case. I have heard comments like β€˜you do not look like Jewish’ or β€˜you would have been safe so it is okay’ referring to my blonde hair and blue eyes,” Senderoff said.

Β Β Β Β Throughout her life, she has experienced stereotypes and comments but she thinks that the comments are not just directed at Jewish people but common with minority groups. Senderoff hopes to work together with different people and impact people positively doing such as community service. Β Β Β Β

Β Β Β Β Every religious students mentioned that the religion should not be a way to discriminate or differentiate someone. No matter how much religion is common or rare, all of them face stereotypes that may not be entirely true. Within the many diverse religions, individuals respecting one another’s belief will shape the world in harmony and become the first, forwarding step of peaceful diverse society.

Β Β Β Β Los Girasoles and Nervous Dog Cafe both reported money stolen from the businesses.

Β Β Β Β Located on Steels Point Drive, Famous Hair on Hudson Drive is a short five minute drive away. Famous Hair reported that a hair dryer and iron were stolen, but did not report any money missing.

Β Β Β Β Tong Tong’s on Norton Road was broken into shortly over a week after the first three businesses on the night of March 3-4. The restaurant reported parts of their security system stolen, along with $200 cash. Additionally, a television set was damaged during the break-in.

Β Β Β Β The break-ins slowed down for over a month, with the next string occurring during the nights of April 14-15 and April 15-16.

Β Β Β Β On the night of April 14-15, the burglar hit three businesses and attempted a fourth on Darrow Road. All of the businesses robbed that night are in extremely close proximity of each other.

Khalid- The Newest Sensation Of Pop Music

Maria Leonino

Β Β Β Β Over the years, music styles have changed and evolved. While the music may not be like it used to be, singer Khalid Robinson, or better known as just β€œKhalid” has grown into one of the top pop artists.

Β Β Β Β Khalid made his music debut on March 3, 2017. He released his 15 track album, which skyrocketed quickly and boosted his career. His hit song β€œLocation” was performed live shortly after the release, and β€œAngels” was featured on the hit television show, β€œGrey’s Anatomy”.

Β Β Β Β Ever since then, Khalid has released many collaborations with other artists, an E.P album, and his most recent album, β€œFree Spirit” released on April 5, 2019.

Β Β Β Β β€œI learned about Khalid from his song β€œLocation”. I saw it online and found his music. I have been a fan before his first album came out,” junior Payton Hackim said.

Β Β Β Β Along with the release of his new album, Khalid is going on tour and the tickets became available the day the album came out. Hackim and I bought tickets for his Columbus show in the summer.

Β Β Β Β I cannot wait to see Khalid live. He is one of my favorite artists and he has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard.

Β Β Β Β The 17 track album of β€œFree Spirit” contains a variety of different music. There is upbeat songs such as β€œTalk” and β€œRight Back”, and there are deeper, sadder songs such as β€œHeaven” and β€œIntro”.

Β Β Β Β β€œHis music makes me feel so many emotions. Happy, sad, mixed emotions, just about everything. He has a way with connecting songs to others lives on such a deeper level and I love that,” Hackim said.

Β Β Β Β The upbeat songs give me hope for the future, the sad songs make me reflect on my past, and his more chill songs calm me. Any mood I feel can turn around once I listen to his songs.

Β Β Β Β Khalid has a way with his lyrics and music, it is unlike any other artist I have ever heard. He is inspiring to many at such a young age, and he is just getting started.

Β Β Β Β My favorite song for sure is β€œRight Back”. The song is about a relationship falling off track and needing to spend more time with that special someone.

Β Β Β Β Although I love the message the song portrays, the upbeat music and the way it makes me feel is what I love the most. This was one of the first songs I listened to when the album came out and it remained my favorite throughout the whole album.

Β Β Β Β Some comparisons between us first and most recent album is how Khalid has evolved and changed. He has such a more positive outlook on life and his songs prove he is happier and in a better place than before.

Β Β Β Β β€œ8Teen” is a track from his first album, which was his age when he released the album. Now, Khalid has the track β€œTwenty One”. When he was 18 he talked about not accomplishing much and being behind, but now that he is 21 he knows what he wants and has done more than he ever dreamed of.

Β Β Β Β All in all, Khalid’s album β€œFree Spirit” is one of the best, and my most favorite album. I hope in the future he releases more albums and shows the world how great he is.

Β Β Β Β β€œOverall, I like the vibe of his new album and the meaning each song has. Every song has a different message, and in some albums songs can be repetitive but I do not feel that way with this album,” Hackim said.
