Lauren Rayman

Β Β Β Β Stow’s police are currently looking for the man responsible for breaking into eight different businesses in the city. The first break-in occurred on Sunday, February 24, and the most recent occurred on Tuesday, April 16.

Β Β Β Β According to news5cleveland.com, the eight businesses broken into were Nervous Dog Cafe, Los Girasoles, Famous Hair, Tong Tong, Tavern of Stow, Gavin Scott Salon, Ms. Miki’s Gymnastics and Take 5 Oil Change.

Β Β Β Β Marquette School of Dance also reported damage to one of their doors, according to MyTownNeo. The studio did not appear to have been entered.

Β Β Β Β MyTownNeo reported that three businesses, Los Girasoles, Nervous Dog Cafe and Famous Hair, were broken into the night of February 24-25.

Β Β Β Β Los Girasoles and Nervous Dog Cafe both reported money stolen from the businesses.

Β Β Β Β Located on Steels Point Drive, Famous Hair on Hudson Drive is a short five minute drive away. Famous Hair reported that a hair dryer and iron were stolen, but did not report any money missing.

Β Β Β Β Tong Tong’s on Norton Road was broken into shortly over a week after the first three businesses on the night of March 3-4. The restaurant reported parts of their security system stolen, along with $200 cash. Additionally, a television set was damaged during the break-in.

Β Β Β Β The break-ins slowed down for over a month, with the next string occurring during the nights of April 14-15 and April 15-16.

Β Β Β Β On the night of April 14-15, the burglar hit three businesses and attempted a fourth on Darrow Road. All of the businesses robbed that night are in extremely close proximity of each other.

Β Β Β Β Gavin Scott Salon, Tavern of Stow and Ms. Miki’s Gymnastics all reported break-ins that night. Parts of their security systems were stolen from Gavin Scott Salon and Tavern of Stow. A safe was also reported missing from the Tavern of Stow

Β Β Β Β A police report from Ms. Miki’s Gymnastics said that the door was pried open and the burglar entered the gym. Although items were disturbed, nothing was reported to be stolen.

Β Β Β Β Marquette School of Dance appeared to be the next victim of a break-in that night. The studio reported damage to one of their doors, but the burglar did not appear to make it inside the building.

Β Β Β Β The following night of April 15-16, the robberies made their entrance on Kent Road at Take 5 Oil Change. Luckily that night, Take 5 Oil Change appeared to be the only business broken into.

Β Β Β Β According to the police report filed by Take 5 Oil Change, the burglar broke a garage bay window to get into the business. $845 and Take 5’s digital video recorder security system were reported stolen. A safe was also reported to have been damaged during the break-in.

Β Β Β Β Stow’s police do not have much security footage of the burglar. He appears to be a white male, with a light colored SUV appearing to be involved in the break-ins.

Β Β Β Β Citizens of Stow are encouraged to contact Detective Jeff Swanson at 330-689-5727 if they have any information on the suspect or individuals involved. $5,000 is being offered by Summit County Crime Stoppers for information potentially leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Khalid- The Newest Sensation Of Pop Music

Maria Leonino

Β Β Β Β Over the years, music styles have changed and evolved. While the music may not be like it used to be, singer Khalid Robinson, or better known as just β€œKhalid” has grown into one of the top pop artists.

Β Β Β Β Khalid made his music debut on March 3, 2017. He released his 15 track album, which skyrocketed quickly and boosted his career. His hit song β€œLocation” was performed live shortly after the release, and β€œAngels” was featured on the hit television show, β€œGrey’s Anatomy”.

Β Β Β Β Ever since then, Khalid has released many collaborations with other artists, an E.P album, and his most recent album, β€œFree Spirit” released on April 5, 2019.

Β Β Β Β β€œI learned about Khalid from his song β€œLocation”. I saw it online and found his music. I have been a fan before his first album came out,” junior Payton Hackim said.

Β Β Β Β Along with the release of his new album, Khalid is going on tour and the tickets became available the day the album came out. Hackim and I bought tickets for his Columbus show in the summer.

Β Β Β Β I cannot wait to see Khalid live. He is one of my favorite artists and he has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard.

Β Β Β Β The 17 track album of β€œFree Spirit” contains a variety of different music. There is upbeat songs such as β€œTalk” and β€œRight Back”, and there are deeper, sadder songs such as β€œHeaven” and β€œIntro”.

Β Β Β Β β€œHis music makes me feel so many emotions. Happy, sad, mixed emotions, just about everything. He has a way with connecting songs to others lives on such a deeper level and I love that,” Hackim said.

Β Β Β Β The upbeat songs give me hope for the future, the sad songs make me reflect on my past, and his more chill songs calm me. Any mood I feel can turn around once I listen to his songs.

Β Β Β Β Khalid has a way with his lyrics and music, it is unlike any other artist I have ever heard. He is inspiring to many at such a young age, and he is just getting started.

Β Β Β Β My favorite song for sure is β€œRight Back”. The song is about a relationship falling off track and needing to spend more time with that special someone.

Β Β Β Β Although I love the message the song portrays, the upbeat music and the way it makes me feel is what I love the most. This was one of the first songs I listened to when the album came out and it remained my favorite throughout the whole album.

Β Β Β Β Some comparisons between us first and most recent album is how Khalid has evolved and changed. He has such a more positive outlook on life and his songs prove he is happier and in a better place than before.

Β Β Β Β β€œ8Teen” is a track from his first album, which was his age when he released the album. Now, Khalid has the track β€œTwenty One”. When he was 18 he talked about not accomplishing much and being behind, but now that he is 21 he knows what he wants and has done more than he ever dreamed of.

Β Β Β Β All in all, Khalid’s album β€œFree Spirit” is one of the best, and my most favorite album. I hope in the future he releases more albums and shows the world how great he is.

Β Β Β Β β€œOverall, I like the vibe of his new album and the meaning each song has. Every song has a different message, and in some albums songs can be repetitive but I do not feel that way with this album,” Hackim said.

Changes Coming to the Cafeteria

Abigail Kuhns

Β Β Β Β In the past months, the cafeteria has been making changes in order to keep from cutting funding to other programs and salaries.

Β Β Β Β Β First, the school system cutting all food sales through clubs during the school day and the high school cafeteria recently updated their silverware policy. Now, students who bring a lunch from home have to pay 25 cents for a packet which consists of a spoon, fork, napkin and straw.

Β Β Β Β Β Many students in the high school will bring a lunch and rely on the cafeteria for such items. These students who rely on the cafeteria every day will now be paying 45 dollars a year over a 180 day school year for silverware packets.

Β Β Β Β Β I experienced this first hand and was shocked by the news along with many other student who have been told to pay 25 cents.

Β Β Β Β Senior Bissan Obaid has had incidents in the cafeteria where they would not let her have a dressing packet without buying a lunch while I have gone up and asked and they just handed me one.

Β Β Β Β β€œOne time I went back to go get a ranch packet for my sister and they said I was not allowed to have one because I didn’t have my lunch with me. It was really frustrating considering students don’t have to pay extra for those when you buy a school lunch,” Obaid said.

Β Β Β Β Multiple students have noticed the cafeteria policies depend on the line of staff member they go through.

Β Β Β Β Obaid said, β€œI think if they’re going to make students pay for silverware than they need to make everyone pay for it instead of just the select ones they see.”

Hannah Bartels

Β  Β  Β As if there wasn’t already enough superhero movies, there’s another. But this time it’s okay because the superhero is a woman, which isn’t very common for superhero movies.

According to Variety.com, β€œCaptain Marvel” is the second, β€œmajor Hollywood film to feature a female superhero at its center.” β€œWonder Woman” was the first to do so but β€œCaptain Marvel” is a, β€œsavier and more high-flying fantasy.”

Β Β Β Β Brie Larson serves the role as Captain Marvel in the movie but knows herself as Vers, unknowingly working with the β€œbad guys” as a Kree warrior. Brie has no knowledge of her identity or roots since the accident where she gained her powers by blowing up a ship containing a powerful energy core; however, she does not succeed in destroying the core and it causes many issues later on in the movie.

Β Β Β Β Brie has the ability to fly, make supersonic blasts and change costumes which help her fly into space. When Brie goes on a mission with her team of Kree warriors, she is accidentally captured by the Skrulls who she believes are the bad guys, but in reality she and the Kree people are the real bad guys.

Β Β Β Β Brie must watch her back, for the Skrulls can take the shape and appearance of any person they see. Yet, all the Skrulls really want from Brie is the information on the location of the energy core which can save the Skrull people who are hiding out on a ship in Space from the Kree people.

Β Β Β Β After encountering a Skrull who turns out to be honest and pure, Brie questions her upbringing and her own identity more than before. She soon learns who her real friends are and is determined to stop the Kree people.

Β Β Β Β β€œCaptain Marvel” is an empowering tale of self discovery and finding self worth.
