Earth Day encourages people to make Earth a cleaner place

The one day of the year everyone gets together and helps make the Earth a cleaner place is coming fast: Earth Day.

In 1969, a terrible oil spill occurred in Santa Barbara, California. A current Wisconsin senator, Gaylord Nelson, then came up with the idea of Earth Day.

The oil spill caused many students to start taking part in making the Earth a cleaner, better place than it was previously. Nelson thought if he could take the same motivation and have it happen again, it would be more successful than it was with the oil spill.

Nelson constructed a team to help promote the idea of celebrating the Earth nationwide. The main focus was to encourage people to get involved with cleaning the Earth even without a disaster occurring.

As a result of Nelson’s campaign, on April 22, 20 million Americans participated in cleaning the Earth. Americans gathered in streets, parks and auditoriums to promote healthy ways to live to help the planet.

Organizations against subjects like power plants, pollution of water and raw sewage all realized they shared common beliefs with Nelson.

After the first Earth Day, the United States Environmental Protection Agency was created. Along with acts like the Endangered Species Act.

In 1990, Earth Day went viral and over 200 million people in 141 different countries participated.

In 2010, participants were really pushed to the test. With pollution and total disregard for the environment at an all time high, participants really had to be persistent in their efforts.

Some countries and communities have deemed the week of April 22nd as Earth Week. In some places, the month of April is known as Earth Month.

People should care more about the Earth on more than just one day, week, or month and should really take more time to consider the Earth in daily life.

Earth Day was not created for people to just show love for the Earth and environment for just one day. The dayΒ was created for people to practice healthier lifestyles daily that help better the planet.

Seniors put the school up for sale

As Senior Survivor takes place, the participants have free realm in the school overnight.

Coming into the building on Thurs., April 9 brought a surprise to many students.

A photo of the flyer hung around school. This was a printout of the Craigslist ad.

These seniors had placed a sign outside, proclaiming the school “For Sale.” They also putΒ the school on Craigslist and printed out the add, hanging fliers around the school.

Since being posted, the Craigslist ad has been removed.

The advertisement described the high school as “a very spacious and large vacation home in a boring city.”

The running price was $69.

The ad went on to say, “The odor is very welcoming in warm weather, and the ancient carpet is held together by the finest duct tape.”

This year’s senior prank falls under one the first to use technology in a creative way.

The seniors ended the ad with something many students found relatable: “we get closer to hell every day, which means good weather and tans.”

Unknown artist revealed

Previously, that beautiful voice coming out of the radio was unknown. Now, the world can know his name: Jake Hagood.

Hagood is the man behind the β€œWho is Fancy” persona.

No one was sure who the voice belonged to. Some guessed the sound to be that of Ne-Yo or even Adam Levine, but all of those theories were shot down by Jimmy Fallon’s show on April 7. Turns out β€œWho is Fancy” is a singer/songwriter from Nashville.

Hagood performed live on the show in order to reveal his face for the first time.

At first, he began singing, but instead of showing himself, the light shined upon various lip-syncers throughout the first lines of the song. This tactic was much like that of the few music videos released on his youtube, which gave a more mysterious effect to his facade. Then, the big reveal happened and β€œWho is Fancy” showed his true identity.

Scooter Braun, who signed Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepson, has done a fantastic job of making a big deal of this young, on the rise artist. Hagood gained awareness from his soulful voice and his perplexing entrance to the music world.

Not only did this β€œWho is Fancy” boy receive a mass amount of attention, but the whole deal brought some millions of viewers to Fallon’s show as well. The rest of the world now has the knowledge of a new, creative artist who might be a favorite for many people very soon. The show and his exposure was a β€œwin-win” for everyone.
